We met while attending Central Washington University in the early '80s, graduated and married in 1984.  Greg has worked for Boeing for 20 years, and Heidi retired in 2000 after 18 years in the telecommunications industry.

Covington Cavaliers was established in 1994 after Heidi had spent 25 years working and competing in horses.  She lived in England in the mid '70s and worked for a breeder of Steeple Chase Racing Thoroughbreds.  Here is where the fundamentals of  balance, structure &  movement were learned.

Our first Cavalier encounter was in the early '90s while on a sailing trip in Puget Sound.  A delightful red and white spaniel with the most gorgeous eyes and expression greeted us with a non-stop wagging tail when we docked at Blake Island.  We knew then that a Cavalier would be in our future.

Our home is located in the foothills of Mt. Rainier.

In 1994, after waiting a year, we acquired our first Cavalier from a local reputable breeder and member of the Cavalier community.  We promptly joined the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club USA and its regional affiliates, and a year later the American Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club, Cavaliers of Puget Sound Club and English Cavalier Club. We attended our first Cavalier national specialty show in 1995 with our newly acquired puppy.  We came home with no ribbons, only the realization that we had begun a journey that would consume the rest of our lives.

The day we brought home our first Cavalier, "London."

Covington Candied Apple ("Candy," left) & Ch. Covington Virginia Louise ("Ginnie")

Primarily showing our dogs ourselves in both the AKC and CKCSC-USA, we have earned titles on over 36 dogs and bred 2 National Specialty Best in Show winners, and two National Specialty Reserve Best in Show winners. We are proud to have our 5th generation of Covington breeding in the show ring in 2007. Heidi is currently working on her judging certification in the CKCSC-USA and has been invited to judge Puppy Sweepstakes at AKC-sanctioned specialty shows.

Our objective is to produce quality dogs that exemplify breed type, beauty, conformation and temperament.  We strive to maintain elegance in movement and style, keeping the Cavalier worthy of its continued royal status. And most importantly, never lose sight of the ultimate goal: the future health of our breed.
